Apple pie can be baked using all sorts of apples, which will be either sliced to pieces or mashed into compote. The pie may be garnished with apples and/or compote. A pie garnished with custard instead of compote is named “tarte à l’alsacienne”. It may be flavoured with nutmeg and served with a ball of vanilla ice cream or some crème fraiche. The main ingredients are the pastry and above all the apples.

- In order to decrease the glucide input you should remove the sugar from the Apple compote and not to top the pie.
